9 Altars Cafe sits in the shadows of Durhams magnificent Cathedral and it is from here that we got our unusual name....
“By the 1300’s the east end of the Cathedral was in a dangerous condition and a new chapel was planned by Bishop le Poor. Construction eventually took place 1242-1274. So many pilgrims wished to attend Mass and to receive blessings each day that nine altars were provided.”
9 Altars is a family owned business operating in and around Durham City. Established in 2004 by Peter Naylor and Barbara Rochester it now provides a range of services:
